Shinzen's bonsai collection asks Fresno visitors to slow down and look closely
The bonsai collection and surrounding garden keep different closing times, especially in seasonal and difficult weather conditions.

A small tree can hold a surprisingly large visual world. Branch spacing, trunk movement and the relationship to a container reward the kind of attention that a hurried garden circuit rarely allows. The Clark Bonsai Collection inside Fresno's Shinzen Garden offers that opportunity.
In the October–March season, Shinzen Garden opens Wednesday–Sunday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., with Mondays and Tuesdays closed. The bonsai collection normally closes earlier, at 4 p.m. A late-afternoon garden arrival therefore does not guarantee time in the collection.
Conditions can shorten that schedule further. When temperatures exceed ninety-five degrees, the collection lists 10 a.m.–1 p.m. hours; heavy rain or unhealthy air quality can close it. Check current notices before setting out specifically to see bonsai.
Garden admission is generally $5 for adults, with lower youth, student and senior rates and a listed family option. Woodward Park parking arrangements are separate. Self-guided visits are available; organized docent tours require advance booking. Choose one tree and notice the spaces between its branches as well as the foliage itself, without touching or trying to reproduce its care at home from appearance alone.
