The San Joaquin River Parkway's free center pairs a restored ranch house with gardens and an imaginative half-mile path.

What does a place look like from the perspective of a small animal? The River Center's Hidden Homes Trail offers a playful way into that question, using oversized animal homes created by local artists. It is one part of a Fresno destination that joins river culture, nature and art.
The half-mile footpath sits within the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust's River Center at 11605 Old Friant Road. The site also includes a restored 1890s ranch house, gardens, orchard, vineyard and picnic space, with changing art and educational exhibits.
Entry is free, with donations encouraged. Grounds hours are Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., and weekends, 8 a.m.–3 p.m. The ranch house, exhibits and store have a separate weekend schedule of 10 a.m.–3 p.m. and close in January. Confirm current notices before traveling.
Choose the outing around the people attending. A short trail with time to imagine shelter and habitat can stand on its own; a weekend exhibition adds another perspective. Consult the visitor guide for current route access rather than assuming every path reaches the river. Leave living habitats undisturbed while exploring the artist-made ones.
